TRAIN&TREKKING FROM PINEROLO TO SUSA
This is a trekking which links Pinerolo to Susa by Pilgrims’ roads; probably this is the path that our ancestors followed to reach France in XIX century.

1st day; TORINO - PINEROLO
Arrival by train, accommodation in B&B “Casa Carla”

2nd day; PINEROLO (380m) - CANTALUPA (480m)
Gradient: 400m Time: 3 h
You leave the town and you hike through the country up to Cantalupa. Accommodation in B&B “Il Noce” and/or “La Cumba”.
3rd day; CANTALUPA (480m) – CUMIANA (340m)
Gradient: 100m Time: 3 h 30’
A path which meets many places of worship: St. Antonio, St, Sisto, St. Pietro in Vincoli, St Valeriano, St. Gervasio, where there is a very old graveyard. During the early Middle Ages, noblemen and monks, from Susa valley, buried their Dead here, because this was the only Christian cemetery in this land. You walk down to Cumiana. Accommodation in B&B “u Tej”.

4th day; CUMIANA (340m) – LA MADDALENA (750m)
Gradient: 900m Time: 7 h
You walk along “strada dei morti” (Dead’s road), the old path that goes from Cumiana to Sangone valley. You can stop at refuge La Maddalena (the old school near the church).
5th day; LA MADDALENA (750m) – FORNO di Coazze (1160m)
Gradient: 500m Time: 3 h
A path through a wooded country, with a lot of old deserted villages. You go up Colletto del Forno and down Madonna of Lourdes shrine. Accommodation in Casa Alpina – FERRIA where there is a GTA stop.

6th day; FORNO di Coazze (1160m) – Refuge VAL GRAVIO (1390m)
Gradient: 900m Time: 8 h
This is the longest stage, but it is very nice: old villages, little chapels, paved mule tracks, forest, high alpine pastures. You walk through Orsiera-Rocciavrč Park and “Sentiero dei Franchi” (Frankish path). You arrive to Pian Signore and you walk down to refuge Val Gravio.

7th day; Refuge VAL GRAVIO (1390m) – Refuge AMPRIMO (1385m)
Gradient: 300m Time: 3 h
This is a short stage: you can learn something about nature, history and alpine economy visiting Monte Benedetto (a Carthusian monastery) and its alpine farm. Accommodation in refuge Amprimo.

8th day; Refuge AMPRIMO (1385m) – SUSA (500m)
Gradient: 200m Time 5 h
You continue to follow “Sentiero dei Franchi” till Alpe Toglie. Here you’ll take GTA that descends to Menolzio, Meana, Susa. Accommodation in B&B “Richi”, not far from the railway station.
